ROCKFORD, IL — A Winnebago County Sheriff’s Deputy opened fire while attempting to make an arrest about 1:30 p.m. Feb. 3 in the area of Harrison Avenue and Kishwaukee Street.

Officials said there was no threat to the public. The suspect who was not identified was arrested in the 800 block of Sawyer Road.

Charges were not released. The area remains under an active investigation.

Both the deputy and the suspect were evaluated by medical personnel as a precaution but were not believed to be injured.

Because no one was shot, the Winnebago Boone County Integrity Task Force was not activated.
