Vote for Journal Sentinel athlete of the week, presented by Piggly Wiggly

Who was the Milwaukee area’s top prep athlete last week? You tell us.

You can vote for the Piggly Wiggly Milwaukee Journal Sentinel high school athlete of the week until 3 p.m. Feb. 7. You don’t have to be a subscriber to vote. Votes are limited to one per hour per device.

Rogan Dewane, Muskego Ice Force boys hockey co-op

The junior had a monster week for the Muskego co-op, tallying nine points across two victories for the Ice Force. On Jan. 27 in an 8-1 win over Cedarburg, Dewane registered a six-point night with four goals and a pair of assists. Three nights later against River Falls, Dewane scored a hat trick in another 8-1 victory.

Mackenzie Gruszynski, Hartford gymnastics

Gruszynski continued her excellent season this past week in a North Shore Conference meet victory against Cedarburg and Grafton. The senior broke Hartford’s all-time single-meet vault record with a score of 9.5.

Mikaia Litza, Wauwatosa East girls basketball

In one of the biggest games of the girls basketball season, Litza had a stellar performance in a 76-66 overtime victory over previously unbeaten Arrowhead. The DePaul recruit led everyone with 25 points and seven assists in the win, then three nights later on Jan. 30 against rival Wauwatosa West, she scored 14 points with nine assists in an 83-26 rout of the Trojans.

Deuce McDuffie, Nicolet boys basketball

It has been a time of broken records lately for Nicolet’s boys basketball program. Rashaad Davis broke the program’s all-time scoring record, and Deuce McDuffie joined the 1,000-point club Jan. 30 against Homestead. McDuffie had 17 points and five rebounds in a 78-71 defeat against the Highlanders.

Bryan Rivera, Waukesha West boys wrestling

On Jan. 29 at Catholic Memorial, Rivera broke the boys wrestling program’s all-time pin record of 91 set by 2010 graduate Tyler Semrad with his 92nd career pinfall victory at 132 pounds. Rivera defeated Charlie Zeinert at the 3:49 mark of the bout, helping the Wolverines dominate the Crusaders in a 69-12 team victory.
