The final TV timeout of the period is here, with the Spartans holding their 1-0 advantage, as well as a 13-5 shot advantage.

It did not take long for the Spartans to respond to the Penn State goal. Stramel cleans up the mess in front of the net, scoring a rebound goal off of a shot from Martone.

TV timeout has arrived, and the Spartans are clinging to their one goal lead. Leading in shots, 21-14, MSU will look to continue building as the second period moves along.

Immediately after the TV break, Gavin McKenna ties this game up at two a piece. Mac Gadowski gets the assist.

Penn State has taken control of this game, but the Spartans have managed to keep it tied. A better effort needs to be forthcoming for the Spartans.

3:35 2P: Penn State 3, Michigan State 2

Cabin pressure is gone, and the Spartans have gone on their first deficit of the day. They did not put a better effort, and Fink made them pay with his second of the game, assisted by McKenna and Dane Dowiak.

Following the goal, MSU takes a penalty just 13 seconds later, and will now go on the penalty kill.

0:45 2P: Penn State 3, Michigan State 2

Another problem with the ice here in Beaver Stadium. While we wait for this delay, the Spartans killed off the Patrick Geary minor penalty and will now go on the power play following a tripping minor on the Nittany Lions.

A good start to the period for the Spartans was spoiled after a bad misplay on the blue line by Maxim Strbak leads to a Penn State breakaway, which Shea Van Olm capitalized on.

The captain Matt Basgall finds the equalizer for the Spartans. A point shot finds the back of the net, evening this game up once again. Martone and Russell get credited for the assists.

Penn State challenged the goal for a potential missed offsides call, but were unsuccessful on the challenge, losing their timeout.

End of Period 3: Michigan State 4, Penn State 4

Bonus hockey will be needed to finish this outdoor game from Beaver Stadium. Spartans controlled play late, but could not get the game deciding goal, and a 3-on-3 overtime period will be played for five minutes. If no goal is scored, we will have a shootout.

OT/Final: Michigan State 5, Penn State 4

Charlie Stramel, have yourself a day. Following a mad scramble in the corner, a wide open Stramel was one on one with the goalie and he put it home, ending the NIttany Lions festive day in Beaver Stadium with a loss.
