Multiple, ongoing state and local projects along heavily traveled roadways in Ventura County are expected to cause some traffic delays into the week of Jan. 26.
The California Department of Transportation, or Caltrans, and the County of Ventura have several long-term projects.
The road projects include construction on State Route 118 in Moorpark, State Route 232 in El Rio and Ventura Road in Oxnard and Agoura Road in Agoura Hills, authorities said. Overnight and daytime closures vary between the different projects.
Lane closures can occur unexpectedly for several reasons, including falling debris, rock and vehicle collisions. For the latest closures, visit Caltrans QuickMap.
State Route 33 in Ojai
State Route 33 between Fairview and Lockwood Valley roads north of Ojai has reopened but with some traffic delays, according to Caltrans.
The agency began repairs after major storms washed out the soil embankment and part of the southbound road near postmile 50.
Caltrans announced on Jan. 8 that crews began working to fix the damage between postmiles 37.5 and 55.1. The work will reduce the roadway to one lane with alternating one-way traffic-control signals.
There are no alternate routes for drivers hoping to avoid traffic and the project has no estimated time of completion.
State Route 118 in Somis
Caltrans’ State Route 118 slope repair project is expected to cause delays and lane closures on the 118 in Somis, between Sand Canyon and Balcom Canyon roads, until its estimated completion in the winter of 2026.
Daytime construction and overnight closures will occur intermittently until the project’s completion.
State Route 150 in area between Ojai to Santa Paula
Caltrans began work on a retaining wall on State Route 150 between Ojai and Santa Paula that is expected to last until June 2026.
The construction will close down a lane just north of Bridge Road near Santa Paula for about a mile 24 hours a day, seven days a week, Caltrans said. Traffic will be controlled in both directions with reversible traffic signals.
There are no public detours planned.
The state route is a two-lane stretch that connects Ojai and Santa Paula. To avoid the traffic, commuters heading southbound toward Santa Paula from Ojai, will have to take Highway 101 toward Highway 126.
State Route 118 in Moorpark
Moorpark’s State Route 118 pavement rehabilitation project will see work on a 2.4-mile stretch of Los Angeles Avenue until fall of 2027, according to Caltrans.
Daytime shoulder and sidewalk closures and nighttime lane closures can occur intermittently throughout the stretch of the highway from Spring Road to Montair Drive.
Caltrans will begin saw cutting and replacing concrete at the two intersections of Tierra Rejada Road and Maureen Lane on Fri., Jan. 23, from 7 p.m. to 10 a.m. next day and Sat., Jan. 24, from 7 p.m. to noon next day. One lane of traffic will be open in each direction while the work happens.
Motorists coming from the northbound direction of 118 can use Princeton Avenue into High Street to avoid Los Angeles Avenue. Drivers from Simi Valley, Somis and Camarillo can also take Tierra Rejada Road to reach the west side of the city.
Portions of State Route 232 in Oxnard
Caltrans’ State Route 232 pavement rehabilitation project in Oxnard spans a nearly 4-mile stretch of Vineyard Avenue and has an expected completion window of late 2026 to early 2027.
K-rails have been set up along the northbound lane of Vineyard from Simon Way to Juvenile Center, which may cause delays due to slowed traffic.
Newbury Park neighborhood road work
The Ventura County Public Works Agency has a roadwork project in the Newbury Park neighborhood of Thousand Oaks.
Crews plan to work on sidewalk repair, concrete improvements and street resurfacing on Lesser, Jenny and Ruth drives, according to an agency social media post. The roads are in a residential area east of Newbury Park High School and Borchard Community Park, and the project could affect residents.
The agency expects the project to be completed April 2026.
