What does the Texas Tech basketball team’s NCAA Tournament outlook look like after mauling Baylor on its home floor on Tuesday?
The 12th-ranked Red Raiders (15-4, 5-1) have won four games in a row and will have the chance to earn a massive win this weekend with No. 6 Houston comes to town for a rematch. Now seems like a good time to see where Texas Tech stands in the March Madness projections.
Here’s a look at the latest projections for where Texas Tech could be headed in March if the season were to end today.
ESPN: 4-seed (East Region)
Joe Lunardi’s latest projections came out on Tuesday, and the ESPN expert has the Red Raiders as the 4-seed in the East Region going to Tampa to take on 13-seed Hawai’i. This could potentially set up a rematch with 5-seed Arkansas in the second round.
CBS Sports: 5-seed (East Region)
CBS Sports has a similar slot for Texas Tech, just one seed down from ESPN’s. They have the Red Raiders as the 5-seed in the East Region taking on 12-seed Yale in the first round (no location specified). Vanderbilt is the 4-seed in this projection and would be a potential opponent in the second round.
Blogging the Bracket: 5-seed (East Region)
Chris Dobbertean over at Blogging the Bracket pegs the Red Raiders as the 5-seed in the East Region as well taking on 12-seed Liberty in the first round. Texas Tech, should it win, would then take on either 4-seed Alabama or 13-seed Troy in the second round. These games would take place in Greenville, South Carolina.
FOX: 3-seed (East Region)
Mike DeCourcy over at FOX put Texas Tech as the No. 3 seed in the East Region (which would help provide a more favorable game location) taking on 14-seed Hawai’i. The winner of that game would take on either 6-seed North Carolina or 11-seed Auburn.
Texas Tech basketball’s NCAA Tournament resume
After downing Baylor, Texas Tech ranks 17th in the NCAA’s NET Rankings, holding a 4-4 record in Quad 1 games and a 11-0 record against the other three quadrants combined.
KenPom ranks the Red Raiders 19th in the country overall with the 13th-ranked adjusted offensive efficiency and 30th-ranked adjusted defensive efficiency. Over at Bart Torvik, Texas Tech is 18th nationally, ninth in adjusted offense and 33rd in adjusted defense.
