Brooklyn and Nicola settle in L.A. as Beckham family feud grows

Brooklyn Beckham may be making international headlines for his explosive accusations against his parents, David and Victoria Beckham, but closer to home — their California home — he and wife Nicola Peltz Beckham are working to build a life far from the Palm Beach wedding where the feud began.

In Los Angeles, where the couple now spends most of their time, the two have settled into a quieter, more domestic rhythm. They previously lived in a $16 million Beverly Hills estate but “downsized” to a Beverly Hills condo valued at $3.8 million.

Here’s what to know about the Beckham family feud.

When did Brooklyn Beckham, Nicola Peltz get married?

The couple, who got engaged in 2020, wed on April 9, 2022, in Palm Beach, Florida, in a Jewish ceremony on her father Nelson Peltz’s exclusive estate, as part of a three-day celebration attended by the Beckham clan.

Nicola Peltz Beckham is the daughter of Peltz, 83 – the businessman and billionaire investor of PepsiCo, Procter & Gamble and Kraft – and former model Claudia Heffner, 70. Brooklyn Beckham is the eldest child of footballer David Beckham, 50, and Spice Girls singer and designer Victoria Beckham, 51.

Nicola Peltz Beckham wedding dress: What happened?

Even before their wedding, much ado was made about rumors that Nicola Peltz Beckham would not be wearing a Victoria Beckham design for the ceremony.

Nicola would go on to wear a custom white Valentino dress with white lace gloves and a royal-length lace veil for her big day. According to a Vogue article at the time, the wedding dress was the “culmination of a year’s worth of conversations” with the fashion house’s then-creative director, Pierpaolo Piccioli, including two trips to the Valentino headquarters in Rome and two fittings stateside. Peltz Beckham told the outlet the choice of a Valentino gown was “a no-brainer.”

Months later, Nicola, while insisting there was no “feud” with the Beckhams in an interview with the Sunday Times, attributed the rumors to her not wearing a Victoria Beckham design. The actress noted Victoria’s “atelier couldn’t make the dress in time.”

“But the real truth is, I really, really wanted to wear it and I thought it was so beautiful that Brooklyn’s mom got to make that for me,” she said at the time.

But in Brooklyn’s recent comments, he claims Victoria canceled on Nicola at the last minute.

“My mum cancelled making Nicola’s dress in the eleventh hour despite how excited she was to wear her design, forcing her to urgently find a new dress,” he wrote.

USA TODAY has reached out to Victoria and David Beckham’s representatives for comment.

Celebrities who attended Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz’s wedding

Among the stars in attendance, per Vogue: Eva Longoria, who congratulated the newlyweds in an Instagram post captioned “celebrating love.”

Serena Williams, Gordon Ramsay and model Isabela Grutman each shared photos on Instagram that matched paparazzi shots of them attending the event.

Venus Williams and Spice Girls, Mel B and Mel C, also celebrated the newlyweds.

Following the festivities, the former Spice Girl congratulated the couple on Instagram, writing, “Congratulations Mr and Mrs Beckham X Welcome to the family.”

David Beckham shared a photo from the bride and groom’s Vogue spread, captioned, “Congratulations Mr & Mrs Beckham. Welcome to the family @nicolaannepeltz . Love you Bust.”

Brooklyn Beckham’s first wedding dance at the center of the Beckham family feud

Brooklyn added that Victoria Beckham made the day an “embarrassment” as she “hijacked” his first dance with his wife.

Their first dance, he said, “had been planned weeks in advance to a romantic love song.” However, he alleged that “in front of our 500 wedding guests, (singer) Marc Anthony called me to the stage, where in the schedule was planned to be my romantic dance with my wife, but instead my mum was waiting to dance with me instead.”

A month after their wedding, People published a report from an anonymous source claiming that Nicola felt her big day was “ruined” after Anthony, a family friend, called Victoria up to dance with Brooklyn, dubbing her the “most beautiful woman in the room tonight” in a moment that left the room “in absolute shock.” Nicola then allegedly ran from the room crying, according to their unidentified source. Victoria and David Beckham did not respond to the outlet’s request for comment at the time.

Wedding day drama: Seating arrangements and financial questions

There were also other familial issues over the couple’s big day, including anger over the couple having their grandmothers sit at their wedding table, according to Brooklyn.

“During the wedding planning, my mum went so far as to call me ‘evil’ because Nicola and I chose to include my Nanny Sandra, and Nicola’s Naunni at our table, because they both didn’t have their husbands,” he wrote. “Both of our parents had their own tables equally adjacent to ours.”

But Brooklyn, who also took Peltz’s name when he married her, said tensions actually came to a head over his parents allegedly attempting to financially coerce him – in what could be considered financial abuse, as described.

“Weeks before our big day, my parents repeatedly pressured and attempted to bribe me into signing away the rights to my name, which would have affected me, my wife, and our future children,” he added. “They were adamant on me signing before my wedding date because then the terms of the deal would be initiated. My holdout affected the payday, and they have never treated me the same since.”

Brooklyn Beckham, Nicola Peltz vow renewal

Victoria and David Beckham, who attended the couple’s wedding, were notably absent from their vow renewal in August, which Brooklyn Peltz Beckham now says was “so we could create new memories of our wedding day that bring us joy and happiness, not anxiety and embarrassment.”
