Dolphins sign rookie CB, elevate rookie WR for Week 16 vs. Bengals

The Miami Dolphins signed rookie cornerback Ethan Robinson from the practice squad and elevated rookie wide receiver Theo Wease Jr., the team announced Saturday.

Both undrafted rookies were preseason stars for the Dolphins. In a 24-17 exhibition win against the Detroit Lions, Wease caught two touchdown passes from Quinn Ewers in the second half to give Miami a lead. Robinson then made an athletic interception in the final seconds to put the game on ice.

With the Dolphins now mathematically eliminated from playoff contention, the team has every reason to give young players an opportunity to show what they can do. It’s part of the reason seventh-round pick Ewers is the right choice to start at quarterback instead of veterans Tua Tagovailoa or Zach Wilson.

To make room for Robinson, the Dolphins placed special teamer Elijah Campbell on injured reserve. Veteran offensive lineman Kion Smith was also elevated from the practice squad.
