Who asked for this?
Jen Miller’s Dec. 4 column – “Thousands of Ohioans will be punished if bill isn’t killed” – rightly highlights many of the objections against Senate Bill 293.
The question that comes to mind is: Who asked for this? Why did our legislature craft a bill that seeks to “solve” problems with our elections when no such problems exist? Is there some citizen group that pushed for this? Why does our state legislature keep introducing bills that seem targeted to appease special interest groups instead of Ohio citizens?

German Village curb fight
Re “German Village curb fight escalated,” (Dec. 7): I read with interest the story regarding German Village wheelchair ramps and the destruction of the sandstone curbs and removal of bricks. I was a principal of a company in Columbus that has since the year 2000 been building ADA acceptable ramps. Unless the sandstone curbs were deteriorating, they could have been cut in place and not removed. The bricks could also have been replaced on a concrete base just like the sidewalks around Nationwide Arena.
The only thing that can’t be changed is the ADA-required detectable warning devices for the blind. They can be colored red like the bricks. Yes, there will be additional cost, but I doubt six times as stated by the city.
I suggest the German Village group contact one or all of the contractors who are licensed to build ADA ramps and get a real price.

Doing more with less
Re “Ohio car registration fees will increase in January 2026,” Dec. 8: So, raising the BMV “fees” so they don’t raise taxes per the Republican legislation? Is that the game now?
News flash. Everyone sees through this ploy. There isn’t even justification for it in the article.
I like how they won’t raise the title fee enough to help out the clerk’s office, which is ground zero. I’m sure the office is doing more with less. Like every other Ohioan.
Except legislators, of course.
