Linebacker Tackett Curtis will transfer from Wisconsin for final year of eligibility

MADISON – Tackett Curtis went from valued starter for the University of Wisconsin defense at the beginning of the season to barely playing at the end of it.

Now the 6-foot-2, 235-pound inside linebacker reportedly is looking for a new school. On3 reported that Curtis informed it that he will enter the transfer portal. Curtis didn’t make an official announcement, but posted the report on his X and Instagram pages.

He has one year of eligibility remaining.

Curtis, who transferred to Wisconsin from USC following the 2023 season, played in 24 games at Wisconsin. He started the first seven games this year but played only a handful of defensive snaps during the final five games.

Those late-season snaps went to Mason Posa, whom the coaches made a third-team all-Big Ten selection, and fellow true freshman Cooper Catalano. And when the team went to a three-linebacker, large nickel package it used junior Christian Alliegro, an all-conference honorable mention pick who was coming off a broken arm, and redshirt freshman Thomas Heiberger.

Curtis finished the season with 29 tackles that included 15 solo stops and one tackle for a loss.
