Mount Union vs. John Carroll football score, live updates, highlights

ALLIANCE — Mount Union and John Carroll will play fo a berth in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III football playoffs today at Larry Kehres Stadium. Kickoff is at noon.

The matchup features two former Ohio Athletic Conference rivals. John Carroll left the OAC for the North Coast Athletic Conference after last season.

Mount Union fumbles away gift opportunity

The Purple Raiders are handed their best gift scoring opportunity of the day … and fumble it away.

A fumble recovery by John Carroll’s Lamar Thomas give the Blue Streaks a first down at the John Carroll 6. The fumble recovery came shortly after John Carroll’s Dylan Crosi was ejected for targeting Mount Union’s Mason Ashby on a 24-yard completion.

John Carroll gets the football first

John Carroll won the coin toss and elected to receive.

How Mount Union reached the third round of the NCAA football playoffs

Mount Union (11-0) won the OAC championship and received a first-round bye in the playoffs. The Purple Raiders easily beat Muhlenberg 49-7 in their first postseason game.

Quarterback Mikey Maloney recorded a career-high six total touchdowns. He finished 22-of-25 for 302 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for three TDs.

How John Carroll reached the third round of the NCAA football playoffs

The Blue Streaks (10-1) won the NCAC title in their first season and also earned a first round bye. They dominated Randolph-Macon 35-6 in their postseason opener.

Nick Semptimphelter threw for 262 yards and three touchdowns. The NCAA leader in completion percentage finished an efficient 31 of 33 on the day.

John Carroll outgained Randolph-Macon in total yards 413-41.
