Report: MRI confirms torn Achilles for Brian Branch

Updating an earlier story, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport, MRI testing confirmed a torn Achilles for Lions safety Brian Branch.

Reports came out early Friday morning that there was a fear Branch had suffered an Achilles injury. Those fears have unfortunately been realized. Branch will obviously miss the rest of this season and it’s up in the air whether he will be ready for Week 1 of the 2026 season.

Branch suffered the injury late in the fourth quarter while breaking up a pass in the end zone intended for Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson. Branch needed help coming off the field and was carted away to the locker room.

Branch is the latest defensive back to have suffered an injury this season. Cornerback Terrion Arnold (shoulder) and safety Kerby Joseph (knee) have also been out and safety Thomas Harper suffered a concussion during Thursday’s game.
