The Chicago Bears defeated the Philadelphia Eagles, 24-15, on Black Friday. It was Chicago’s fifth straight win and ninth in the last 10 games. They remain atop the NFC North at 9-3 while holding the No. 2 seed in the conference.
The Bears jumped out to an early 7-0 lead, and they never relinquished it. After a league-high five comeback wins this year, this was one of Chicago’s most decisive wins despite the nine-point margin. The offense rode the league’s second-best run game to the tune of 281 yards while the defense frustrated a struggling Eagles offense and held the team to just nine points until the final three minutes.
Here’s a look at the best and worst from the Bears offense and defense following Friday’s Week 13 win:
Best offense grades
The Bears dominated on the ground to the tune of 281 rushing yards, where D’Andre Swift and rookie Kyle Monangai became the first Chicago running back duo to each rush for 100 yards since Walter Payton and Matt Suhey in 1985. Swift had 18 carries for 125 yards, averaging 6.9 yards per carry, and a touchdown while Monangai had 22 carries for 130 yards, averaging 5.9 yards per carry, and a score. The Bears offensive line played a key role in the run game’s success, so it’s no surprise to see Jonah Jackson and Drew Dalman among the highest-graded players.
Best defense grades
The Bears secondary really stepped up in this game, totaling two turnovers and helping prevent the Eagles from getting into any sort of rhythm. Safety Kevin Byard recorded his NFL-best sixth interception of the season, taking sole possession of the lead from teammate Nahshon Wright. While Wright didn’t record another interception, he did force his eighth turnover of the season with a forced and recovered fumble. He’s been one of the best surprises and stories this season. Safety Jaquan Brisker continues to be a tone setter on defense, and he led the team with six sacks and a pass breakup.
Worst offense grades
It certainly appears that the Bears have found their left tackle moving forward in Ozzy Trapilo, who made his second straight start. While he allowed four pressures against the Eagles, he’s shown promise in his transition from right to left tackle. Receiver Rome Odunze was a non-factor in a windy game, where he had just two catches for eight yards on six targets. Receiver Luther Burden III continues to see more targets as the season progresses, and he had four receptions for 33 yards on six targets against the Eagles.
Worst defense grades
The Bears defense did a good job preventing the Eagles offense from settling in, as well as holding running back Saquon Barkley to 56 yards. But Chicago’s lowest-graded players came along the defensive line. Defensive tackles Andrew Billings and Gervon Dexter Sr. combined for two tackles while defensive end Austin Booker totaled three tackles, including one for a loss. Linebacker Amen Ogbongbemiga got the start with the Bears still down their three starting linebackers, and he totaled two tackles and a pass breakup.
