Halftime shows have become a staple of NFL games on Thanksgiving. And one of Detroit’s own will come in to electrify the Ford Field crowd during the Green Bay Packers-Detroit Lions game.
Jack White, the singer and guitarist best-known as part of the rock duo the White Stripes, will perform at halftime. The White Stripes were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame earlier this month.
Here’s more about Jack White, his career and the halftime show:
Who is Jack White?
He’s a 50-year-old Detroit native who, with then-wife Meg White, formed the White Stripes in 1997. The garage-rock duo released six studio albums between 1999 and 2007, with two going platinum.
They won six Grammys — in 2004, 2006 and 2008 for best alternative music album; in 2004 for best rock song (“Seven Nation Army”); in 2008 for best rock performance by a duo or group (“Icky Thump”); and in 2011 for best boxed or special limited edition package.
White has recorded and performed as a solo artist since, and has also been part of the rock group The Raconteurs. He also works as a producer, runs a record company in Nashville and has a number of musical projects. In all, White has won 12 Grammys.
Isn’t Eminem from Detroit, too?
Yes, and he has a role in the halftime show. Eminem and his producer, Paul Rosenberg, are the executive producers of the show, according to the NFL.
They worked with the Lions on talent selection for the show and will do so for the Lions’ Thanksgiving halftimes the next two seasons, too.
Who’s singing the national anthem at the Packers-Lions game?
Renowned gospel singer CeCe Winans, also a Detroit native, will sing the national anthem.
Who’s the halftime performer at the other Thanksgiving games?
Post Malone will perform at halftime of the Kansas City Chiefs-Dallas Cowboys game, which starts at 3:30 p.m.
Lil Jon is the halftime performer for the Cincinnati Bengals-Baltimore Ravens game, which starts at 7:20 p.m.
