NorthWood's Sophie Yoder is The Tribune's high school Student of the Week for Nov. 17

Congratulations to Sophie Yoder of NorthWood High School! She was voted by Tribune readers as the South Bend Tribune Student of the Week for Nov. 17.

Sophie Yoder, NorthWood High School: Sophie is an exemplary senior at NorthWood, whose commitment to excellence is evident in every aspect of her life. She consistently maintains outstanding grades while challenging herself with a rigorous course load. In addition to her academic achievements, Sophie successfully balances a part-time job with her school responsibilities. Sophie has been an active member of student council and has participated in numerous service opportunities, both through her church and alongside her fellow student leaders. She is also a dedicated member of the tennis team and contributes her talents to the school’s show choir.

Nominee: April Leija-Castaneda, Adams High School

April Leija-Castaneda, Adams High School: April loves creating community, and we witness this through her leadership in the International Student Organization and Spanish Club. She is a great leader who looks to create a positive impact in our school’s culture and community. April loves to learn and gets excited when learning new things, and as educators, it is a joy to have students like her in our classrooms. April is also extremely creative, showing this in many school projects like an ofrenda for a Day of the Dead project in her IB Spanish class. April is a committed and well-rounded student. She has taken IB and AP classes, participated in our CTE program and is involved in many school activities. Not only is she an officer for ISO and Spanish Club, but she is also involved in student government, always showing her leadership skills and Eagle pride. April has done a great job in everything she is involved in, and we are excited to see what she does next.

Nominee: Caleb Skiles, LaVille Jr/Sr High School

Caleb Skiles, LaVille Jr/Sr High School: Caleb does well in geometry and does a great job with quality work that is his own. Caleb is also an excellent teammate and athlete.
