Marion County Sheriff’s detectives on Nov. 7 were investigating a shooting death from the prior day.
According to a news release issued by the agency, deputies were notified about a reckless driver in the 8200 block of Southwest 49th Avenue Road in Marion Oaks.
On their way to the scene, deputies were told there was an altercation between the alleged reckless driver and a second driver.
Arriving at the location, deputies found one driver had been shot.
Transported to a local hospital, the driver later died from his injuries. The victim has been identified as 37-year-old Troy Meeks.
Deputies said the reported shooter, identified only as a man, stayed at the scene and was cooperative with law enforcement. Detectives interviewed the man and he was released.
Sheriff’s detectives and prosecutors are working together on the case to see if the shooting is a possible stand your ground case.
