At least nine people are confirmed to have died as a result of a fiery UPS plane crash at the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport on Nov. 4.
An airport spokesperson said delays and cancellations at the SDF Louisville Airport were likely, meaning travelers scheduled to depart from or arrive at the airport should monitor their flight status.
But how is the deadly crash affecting flights in and out of Chicago? Here’s what we know.
UPS plane crashes at Louisville airport
A UPS cargo plane bound for Honolulu crashed shortly past the runway of Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport at around 5:15 p.m. Nov. 4, according to the Courier Journal. It marks the deadliest plane crash in UPS Airlines history.
The blaze produced by the crash was only intensified by the plane’s 220,000 pounds of jet fuel. A towering plume of smoke could be seen from miles away.
The cause of the crash is not immediately clear and officials said the National Transportation Safety Board will lead the investigation. The plane was an MD-11 with three crewmembers onboard, UPS officials said in a statement.
Sixteen people were still reportedly unaccounted for, as of 7:30 a.m. Nov. 5.
O’Hare, Midway delays
Flights in and out of O’Hare and Midway appear to be unaffected by the crash as of 8 a.m. CT Wednesday morning.
The airports’ online Real-Time Delays tracker shows average delays of less than 15 minutes for arriving and departing flights.
Eight O’Hare flights had been canceled in the past 24 hours, while none were canceled at Midway, according to the tracker.
How to check O’Hare flight status
Passengers can check their flight status by entering their flight number, airline and/or origin airport information into the Flight Search dashboard on the O’Hare website.
How to check Midway flight status
Passengers can similarly check their status by entering their flight information into Midway’s online Flight Search dashboard.
