Deputies have arrested a Hesperia man who they say was caught on camera taunting and ultimately shooting a dog to death in its owner’s fenced-in front yard earlier this week.
Scott William Binder, 36, was arrested about 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, at his home in the 14600 block of Mojave Street, according to San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department officials and county booking records.
Officials launched an investigation two days earlier after a video surfaced online showing a man ” provoking and shooting a dog” as the animal was contained within a fenced front yard, sheriff’s officials said in a written statement.
The man can be seen on the footage approaching the fence and taunting the dog before drawing a gun and shooting the animal.
Binder was quickly identified as a suspect in the shooting.
“(A deputy) conducted surveillance at Binder’s residence and observed a vehicle, similar to the one seen in the video, parked in the front yard,” the statement said. “Deputies served a search warrant at Binder’s home, where evidence confirmed he was responsible for the shooting.”
He was booked on suspicion of animal cruelty, negligent discharge of a firearm and being a convicted felon in possession of a gun, records show.
Bail was set at $230,000 pending an initial court appearance.
