Lubbock Christian University to welcome BEMA Podcast host Marty Solomon

Lubbock Christian University will welcome author, speaker, and podcast host Marty Solomon to campus for a special evening event at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, in the Baker Conference Center.

Solomon, best known as the host of the popular BEMA Podcast, is recognized for his thoughtful and engaging exploration of the Bible’s historical and cultural context. His work invites audiences to see Scripture through a fresh lens, deepening their understanding of faith and its relevance today.

As the president of Impact Campus Ministries, Solomon has spent years teaching and mentoring college students and church communities. His approachable teaching style and emphasis on context-driven study have resonated with thousands of listeners and readers around the world.

Redeemer Lutheran Church hosting fall recital

Redeemer Lutheran Church will host its fall recital at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, at the church located at 2221 Ave. W.

The free event will feature Texas Tech graduate students Cole Shires, piano, and Aiden Garnett, double bass. Attendees are encouraged to bring your family, friends and love for music. A reception will follow. Parking is available on the east side with wheelchair accessibility.

Lubbock Christian Women’s Connection hosting Veterans Day luncheon

Ladies and men are invited to the Lubbock Christian Women’s Connection luncheon celebrating Veterans Day from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Nov. 11 at Hillcrest Country Club, 4011 N. Boston Ave. The event will feature Jane Thacker’s music and her story of “If the Shoe Fits, Wear It.”

New Neighbors Club hosting Silent Auction, Game Day

The New Neighbors Club of Lubbock will have their Silent Auction and Game Day starting at 10 a.m. Nov. 14 at the Lubbock Women’s Club, 2020 Broadway.

They will have a baked goods section, restaurant and merchant gift cards, candles, scented lotions, hair products, homemade holiday pieces, jewelry and many other special items.

Proceeds will benefit local charities. The event is open to the public.

The cost is $30 for guests and members and includes lunch. There will be prizes for game winners. Games played will be Bridge, Shanghai Rummy, Pennies from Heaven and Samba.

Show Chorus seeking to grow membership meets Mondays

CASA needs volunteer advocates

CASA of the South Plains is actively needing 40 more volunteer advocates by the end of the year to help change the lives of children in foster care in our community.

CASA currently serves approximately 400 children across six counties, however there is still an additional 400 children in foster care without a Volunteer Advocate.

CASA Volunteer Advocates walk alongside children who are experiencing unimaginable things during their time in foster care. CASA desperately needs committed individuals in our community to give 10-15 hours a month of their time to become a Volunteer Advocate. Over the next two months, CASA of the South Plains will be hosting multiple CASA 101 Informational Sessions. This will provide community members with an opportunity to learn more about the pivotal role CASA Volunteers play in the lives of a children in foster care.

Alzheimer’s gathering every month at Carillon

The Alzheimer’s Association, West Texas Chapter, will hosts its “A Circle of Friendship” gathering from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month at Carillon Senior Living, 1717 Norfolk Ave.

Covenant Presbyterian hosting community drumming circle

Covenant Presbyterian Church invites the community to join for their community drumming circle starting at 6 p.m. on the first and third Fridays of each month at Covenant Center, 4600 48th St.

All are welcomed to join. No special musical ability or experience is required. Just bring your “child of God” self and a drum if you have one. If you don’t have a drum, we have several five-gallon water jugs available that make excellent drums for you to borrow. 

Square Dance Club meetings 1st and 3rd Fridays
