Trick or treating will return to Market Street Friday, Oct. 31 with the city expecting more than 1,500 kids to hit the Corning Gaffer District.
Sarah Files, owner of Pip’s Boutique and a member of the Central Area Business Alliance, which has run the annual Halloween event for more than the past 20 years, said the event will be held from 4-6 p.m. Friday on Market Street.

“It’s just a good way to give back to the community,” Files said. “It provides a safe space for kids to go trick or treating and it’s fun for the businesses and the community alike. It’s just a fun event.”
Files called the two-hour event “short and sweet.”
“We usually get more than 1,500 kids to the event,” Files said. “It’s always a good time.”
Local businesses participating in the annual trick or treating event include Vitrix Hot Glass Studio, Rob Sweet State Farm, Kids Rockwell Art Lab, Sedgewick Business Interiors, Corning Area Chamber of Commerce, The Fabric Chicken, Heathered Grey, Pip’s Boutique, Pip’s Squeak, Pink Bellini, Corning Bike Works, Confluence Running, Eleven Lakes Market, Card Carrying Books & Gifts, Rabbit Row Yarns & Haberdashery, Pure Design, Connors Mercantile and Finger Lakes Unique.
“It is wonderful to see our District merchants come together and create such a fun, family-friendly tradition that brings our community down to Market Street,” said Catherine Price, executive director of the Corning Gaffer District. “The warmth of Corning really shows in events like this.”
Painted Post Halloween Parade Oct. 30
