A pair of Amish Gladwin County residents escaped injury Friday, Oct. 24, when their buggy was struck from behind while traveling on Chappel Dam Road in Sage Township.
The Gladwin County Sheriff’s Office said a 48-year-old woman from Gladwin County was issued a citation at the scene.
Deputies were dispatched about 10:20 p.m. Friday to investigate a crash involving a motor vehicle and Amish buggy, about a quarter of a mile north of Eagleson Road, the sheriff’s office said in a release posted to Facebook Oct. 27.
The buggy, occupied by a 37-year-old male and a 38-year-old female, was traveling south on Chappel Dam Road when it was struck from behind by a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee being driven by the 48-year-old woman.
Police said neither alcohol nor drugs appeared to be contributing factors.
The crash was at least the fourth this year in Gladwin County involving an Amish buggy.
On Aug. 26, a tractor-trailer struck a buggy, injuring one woman.
On Aug. 4, the Gladwin County Sheriff’s Office said, a 58-year-old Amish woman was killed on Round Lake Road in Butman Township when a buggy carrying three Amish women was struck by a 2016 Jeep Cherokee.
On Aug. 1, two people were injured and one killed in a crash, the sheriff’s office said.
