North Canton man indicted on 27 counts and specifications in apartment shooting

CANTON ‒ A North Canton man has been indicted on 27 criminal counts and specifications in connection with an Oct. 9 shooting at his apartment complex.

Brian K. Francisco II, 38, is facing eight charges of felonious assault, each carrying a specification that a gun was used in the crime. Three of the charges, related to North Canton police officers being the victims, are first-degree felonies. The others are second-degree felonies.

Firearm specifications are also attached to four charges of improperly discharging a firearm into a habitation or a school safety zone, felonies of the second degree.

The indictment includes a single charge of inducing panic, a felony of the fourth degree, and two counts of criminal damaging or endangering, misdemeanors of the first degree.

Francisco is accused of shooting “blindly” through the walls at his apartment, striking a woman who lived in another unit at the Versailles Gardens apartment complex at 175 Applegrove St. NE. While the suspect was shooting, police officers and a paramedic removed the injured woman from her apartment. No one else was shot. No shots were fired by police or emergency responders, investigators said.

Francisco, who is being held at the Stark County Jail on a $1.1 million bond, is scheduled to be arraigned Oct. 31 in Stark County Common Pleas Court.

The case has been assigned to Judge Taryn L. Heath.

No attorney is listed in court records for Francisco on his current case. He was previously represented in Canton Municipal Court by a public defender. Attorneys from the Stark County Public Defender’s Office do not generally comment about clients’ cases outside court.
