There was a good amount of concern following Notre Dame football’s win over USC as late in the game offensive lineman Billy Schrauth came out of the game for the second time due to injury.
The starting guard looked in obvious pain, and while Marcus Freeman didn’t exactly know what the issue was following the game, and with an off week, we won’t get the opportunity to hear from him again until next week. However, there was news on Schrauth’s injury, and it wasn’t good.
Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports is reporting that the guard will miss three-to-four weeks with a knee injury. It seems like he avoided a major injury, but that will put him out next weekend against Boston College, Navy and the Pittsburgh. There’s potential that Schrauth could return against Syracuse for Senior Day, that this is still up in the air.
Thinking about the future, it might be the best to keep him off the field to get healthy for a College Football Playoff run. If Schrauth is healthy enough to play against the Orange, he should see a snap count. Get him some reps against Stanford in the regular season finale, but rest as much as possible if Notre Dame runs the table and makes the 12-team field.
