The Dallas Cowboys are entering their Week 7 contest against the Washington Commanders shorthanded on defense. In all honesty even when at full strength, or relatively full strength, the team has been woefully shorthanded on defense the entire season. But in this particular matchup against a potent division rival, things unexpectedly took a turn for the worse.
The Cowboys lost former All-Pro cornerback Trevon Diggs to a concussion on Thursday, opening up the door for a contest already slated to be a shootout to become a barnburner. In 2024, Commanders WR Terry McLaurin was finally able to crack the code of the Dallas defense, catching two touchdowns and 164 worth of passing yards in Washington’s two wins.
He won’t be able to follow that up though, as despite returning to practice this week, he still isn’t ready to return to the field from his quad injury. More than likely a result of missing the offseason in a contract dispute, McLaurin hasn’t played since Week 3.
In his absence, the team has been starting journeyman WR Chris Moore, but he hasn’t been very productive. Against the porous Dallas secondary, fantasy owners can expect Washington QB Jayden Daniels to spread McLaurin’s targets amongst Moore, Luke McCaffrey and Jaylin Lane. All receivers are capable of turning in career days against this Dallas defense, as that’s been the case for quite a few members of opposing offenses so far this year.
