Start building those little red hotels and tell grandma to pay up: You can now take your Monopoly winnings to the Jeep dealership and turn play money into real money.
Jeep and Hasbro are running a unique promotional deal, offering customers the chance to bring $500 worth of Monopoly money — yes, the little colorful bills that can make or break family game night — to the dealership in exchange for 500 real dollars off the sticker price of a 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Jeep is getting in on the high-level brand deal between Hasbro (Monopoly’s parent company) and McDonald’s, which kicked off the ever-popular McDonald’s Monopoly game, where customers can peel stickers off of cups and French fry sleeves to win prizes.
Along with the Monopoly money promotion, 10 free 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x4s are prizes hidden among the Monopoly McDonald’s game stickers.
Mark Etchells, the general sales manager at Westborn Chrysler Dodge Jeep and Ram, said customers are making good use of their Monopoly bucks.
“They’ve used it on pretty much every Jeep we’ve sold this week,” Etchells said. “It’s a great promotion during a time when prices are going up.”
Etchells said the deal is fun, a little gimmicky, but ultimately a good program that helps buyers get cars.
“Whatever gets you another $500 for a car is good for everyone,” Etchells said. “Any rebate is a great rebate.”
Jeep CEO Bob Broderdorf, who helped cook up the Monopoly money promotion, said at a media event on Oct. 7 that his family’s “cutthroat” attitude toward Monopoly inspired him.
Broderdorf said he once granted his uncle a lifetime of free rides on railroads in the board game after the uncle threw him a life preserver when he was young and fell off the side of a boat.
“So Monopoly in my house is, like, sacred,” Broderdorf said.
When the partnership with Monopoly was initially being discussed, Broderdorf said his idea to grant real money in exchange for Monopoly money was laughed at, until he doubled down.
“I was like, ‘Wouldn’t it be great if we could actually give away Monopoly money for a car?’ he said. “They all started laughing. I was like, ‘No. I’m serious.’ “
According to Jeep, dealerships will return the Monopoly play bills immediately, so everyone can keep on playing. The program runs until Nov. 3.
