Luis E. Cruz Burgos was arrested and charged with one count of first-degree reckless homicide in the death of 32-year-old Giovanni Michael Robinson.

Here’s what we know about the arrest and Robinson’s death.

What have Sheboygan Falls police said about the shooting and Burgos’ arrest?

Sheboygan Falls Police said in a Sept. 24 news release that it found a man suffering from a fatal gunshot wound in the 600 block of Monroe Street. Despite officers’ response and the man receiving medical attention, the man did not survive his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police later identified the man as Robinson.

Police said their preliminary investigation Sept. 24 revealed an unknown person driving a small, dark-colored SUV shot the victim and that the motive “is unclear.”

Cruz Burgos was arrested after police conducted a search warrant at the 2300 block of Kroos Court in Sheboygan. He is being held at the Sheboygan County Detention Center. Police said a news conference is scheduled for early next week, according to a Sept. 26 news release from the Sheboygan Falls Police Department.

What was Robinson doing in Sheboygan Falls?

A GoFundMe page raising money for Robinson’s family said Robinson was in Sheboygan Falls for a golfing trip. He had made his first hole-in-one during the trip and was out celebrating the accomplishment when the shooting happened, the GoFundMe page said.

The GoFundMe page, which two of Robinson’s cousins created, has raised 210,589 Canadian dollars, which equates to almost $150,000 U.S., as of 9:11 p.m. Sept. 27.

Who was Robinson?

Robinson was married to his wife, Rachel, who just last month gave birth to a baby girl. He was also living in Pennsylvania and was originally from Stouffville, Ontario, which is north of Toronto, and worked for an indoor golf company and often traveled to the United States to play golf, according to a CTVNews report.

Robinson also played hockey at the junior and college levels in Canada and also a year professionally in Europe, the Canadian Press reported.

Robinson’s brother said Robinson also planned to visit his sister’s wedding in a week, but that ceremony has been canceled and a funeral will be held instead, according to Fox 6 Milwaukee.
