Columbus men killed after SUV crashed into rear of semi in Madison Township identified

Two men who were killed in a fiery crash after the SUV they were traveling in ran into the back of a stopped tractor-trailer have been identified.

Elhadji Amadou Sow, 27, and Abdoulaye Ly, 30, both of Columbus, died at the scene around 3:30 p.m. Sept. 22 in Madison Township, according to a crash report from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.

Sow and Ly were traveling north on Green Pointe Drive South in a 2004 Honda CR-V when it hit the back of a 2000 Freightliner tractor-trailer. The trailer was stopped on Green Pointe Drive South preparing to turn into the driveway of a warehouse, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Both Sow and Ly had to be extricated from the SUV, according to the report.

The Sheriff’s Office said that Sow was driving at a “high rate of speed” when his vehicle hit the back of the trailer. The report does not say how fast Sow was driving. The posted speed limit for that street is 35 mph, according to the crash report.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured in the crash. The Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Unit continues to investigate.
