The Hornell-based State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation responded after two fishermen reported discovering the victim in the water at around 3:40 p.m. The reservoir is located on Reservoir Road in the Town of Fremont.

No signs of foul play were observed, state police said. The man’s name was not immediately released.

State Police were assisted by the Fremont Fire Department and the Hammondsport Fire Department.

An investigation is ongoing, troopers said.

Three upland reservoirs are operated by the City of Hornell and serve as a sourced of water supply for the city. The raw water goes through multiple phases of treatment before reaching customers. There is no impact on water quality, stated the city.
