It was tough sledding for the Wylie Bulldogs Friday night out in Stephenville. By the time the buzzer blew, the score between Wylie and Stephenville high schools had climbed 52-13 in the Yellow Jackets favor.
But what can you do if you’re not on the field but otherwise involved? If you’re part of Wylie’s Pure Gold Band, you put on the best show that you can and ignore the heat, humidity and certainly the score.
Halftime marching bands are always fun to photograph, and we’re coming up on my favorite part of football season —at least as it pertains to marching bands. Late October not only (hopefully) gifts the Big Country with the crispness of autumn, it also sometimes features the marching bands performing in Halloween costumes.
In that regard, not only is the musicality of the student performers on display, but also their creativity and certainly their sense of humor. That’s a salve that can go a long way, especially if — heaven forbid — the night’s score turns south once more in a bad way.
