Sinton's Mykha Green turns in historic rushing performance to help Pirates stay undefeated

SINTON — Two undefeated teams in a tight, defensive struggle turned into a history-making night for Mykha Green.

The Pirates star blew up in the second half on his way to one of the best single-game rushing performances in Coastal Bend history.

Green tallied 21 carries for 369 yards and four touchdowns — and Sinton needed them all — to keep Gregory-Portland at bay in a 38-28 win to move to 4-0.

The total yardage puts Green seventh in Coastal Bend history, edging out Tuloso-Midway’s Damian Figueroa (359 yards vs. London, 2024) and Gregory-Portland’s Devin Bisby (357 yards vs. Victorai East, 2013).

Freer’s Librado Carrillo has the most rushing yards in one game in the area, amassing 484 yards against Three Rivers in 2016.

West Oso’s Elijah Huff also had a memorable night, totaling 424 yards in a score-fest against Robstown in 2022.

G-P pulled within 17-14 and seemingly had momentum on Friday when Green broke free for a 67-yard touchdown on the first play of the drive with 8:19 to play. He added a 58-yard touchdown jaunt on the first play after the Wildcats turned the ball over on downs on the ensuing drive to put the game out of reach.

Green led all Coastal Bend athletes with 719 yards rushing coming into Week 4 and eclipses the 1,000-yard plateau with his historic effort.

Sinton (4-0) will host Miller (0-4) on Friday, Sept. 26.
