Head outside this weekend to enjoy sunset cruises, mountain biking and more in Northern Michigan.
Here’s what we recommend:
Explore Offield Family Viewlands two ways
On Friday, Sept. 19, you’ll have two ways to experience the Offield Family Viewlands in Harbor Springs.
From 1-3 p.m., you can join an open air writing workshop with Dirk Ruff. According to the Little Traverse Conservancy, this event “is an opportunity to gather, perhaps read from a local poet or writer who has ties to the area, and then give a prompt on experiencing nature through one of our senses, letting this guide the writing. After an hour or so, we will reconvene and, if comfortable, read what was written.”
Later that day, from 5-7 p.m., you can join a group mountain bike ride. The Offield Family Viewlands, the conservancy’s most popular property, includes a hilly trail and routes through the woods.
To register for either event, visit landtrust.org/events.
Enjoy sidewalk chalk art in Boyne City
You can take part in “Chalk the Walk” at the Boyne District Library from 6-7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 19.
The family-friendly event lets all ages decorate the library sidewalks with fun chalk designs. No registration is required and snacks will be available.
Find out more about the library at boynelibrary.org.
See ORVs on parade
If you love seeing tractors, MINI Coopers, Corvettes and other cool vehicles crossing the Mackinac Bridge, you’ll have another chance this weekend during Trek The Mighty Mac.
Off-road vehicles, from 4-wheelers to dirt bikes, will be on parade across the bridge on Saturday Sept. 20. The crossing will start at 11 a.m. starting from the Mackinaw City side. The procession will lead to Little Bear East Arena in St. Ignace where there will be live music, food trucks, a Pick-A-Prize auction and more fun.
Participants also plan to enjoy trail riding throughout the Eastern U.P. and fireworks at dusk.
