Moorpark man arrested after hours-long standoff with deputies
A Moorpark man was arrested on Sept. 17 after an overnight standoff with deputies.
Deputies with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call for service at a home in the 6400 block of East Westwood Street around 7:30 p.m. on Sept.16, said sheriff’s Capt. Jason Karol.
When deputies approached the home, a 34-year-old male resident of the house stepped outside and allegedly brandished a gun and threatened to shoot deputies if they entered, the captain said.
The sheriff’s office initiated a shelter-in-place for the surrounding homes on Yale Ave and Berkeley Circle around 9 p.m., authorities said. Other residents in the suspect’s home were evacuated.
A sheriff’s SWAT team entered the man’s residence around 2 a.m. and detained the man without incident, authorities said. No injuries were reported.
The man was arrested on suspicion of resisting arrest and brandishing an imitation gun, authorities said. As of 10 a.m. Sept. 17, he had not yet been booked into jail.
The sheriff’s office is investigating the incident.
