McDonald's location in Lafayette to host fundraiser Wednesday for employee who died Sept. 8

LAFAYETTE, IN — A McDonald’s store in Lafayette will host a fundraiser on Wednesday, Sept. 17, in honor of an employee who recently died after being struck by a vehicle while crossing South Street.

The McDonald’s at 2333 Sagamore Parkway South will donate 20% of all sales between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to the family of Melanie Pogue, franchise owners said in a news release.

Pogue, 46, of Lafayette, was in the eastbound lanes of South Street when she was struck about 6:15 a.m. on Sept. 8 by a vehicle, according to Lafayette police. She was rushed to IU Health Arnett Hospital, where she died. Her death was ruled an accident.

McDonald’s owner and operator Michael Dudley said in the release the fundraiser serves both as a way to honor Melanie’s life and legacy and to provide support to those she loved most.

“Melanie was more than just a coworker; she was a member of our McDonald’s family,” Dudley said in the release. “Her kindness and compassion touched everyone she met. We hope this event brings people together not only to remember Melanie, but to help her family feel the strength of the community standing behind them.”
