You decide: Vote for the Gainesville-area HS sports Athlete of the Week for September 9-15

The high school sports season is back!

Which means it’s time for once again for everyone’s favorite part of the week: The Gainesville Sun’s Athlete of the Week Poll.

Our nomination process is a little different this season. Please click here to see how to nominate. Nominations are due Monday morning, and they can be sent in by anyone — coaches, administrators, friends, family. It is imperative to send in nominations, so we can continue to honor the best! Aaron Akins, Oak Hall football

8 tackles, 1 interception, two total touchdowns (one passing, one rushing), 110 yards passing and 50 yards rushing.

Abby Williams, Union County volleyball

59 assists and 20 digs in the Fightin’ Tigers three wins over Dixie County, Vanguard and Bradford.

Alexzander Henry, Trenton football

13 carries for 92 yards and a rushing touchdown, plus eight tackles (two for loss) and a sack in the Tigers 28-8 win over Jefferson County.

Amelia Smith, Williston volleyball

38 digs in the Red Devils matches vs. Oak Hall and Newberry.

Andrew Eisner, Oak Hall boys cross country

Won the Bobcats Classic at Santa Fe College last Saturday at 16:23.5.

Anija Goss, Eastside volleyball

Led Rams to first win of the season last week – a sweep at Interlachen.

Chris Johnson, Buchholz football

15 carries for 92 yards and two touchdowns in the Bobcats 30-13 win over Manatee.

Ella Schneider, Santa Fe volleyball

54 assists and 45 digs in the Raiders 4-2 week.

Estella Collante, Oak Hall girls cross country

Second place in the Bobcat Classic at 18:35.0.

Jake Long, St. Francis Catholic football

Six carries for 94 yards, 73 yards passing and an interception for a 62-0 win over Cornerstone Academy – the program’s first win since October 20, 2023.

Javaris Gardner, Eastside football

19 carries for 241 yards and two touchdowns in the Rams 33-17 win over Trinity Catholic.

Jayden Jackson, Fort White football

137 total yards and three total touchdowns in the Indians 28-27 loss to Fernandina Beach.

John Jazikoff, Williston football

135 yards passing and four total touchdowns (three passing and one rushing) to reach over 1,000 yards for his career in the Red Devils 63-0 win over Lake Minneola.

Jorryn Dye, Gainesville High volleyball

55 kills and 41 digs in the Hurricanes 4-3 week.

Julian De La Cruz, Columbia football

Eight tackles and the game-sealing interception in the Tigers 9-0 win at defending Rural state champion Madison County.

Keimarion Neal, Santa Fe football

A rushing touchdown, plus contributions in the passing game and on defense, in the Raiders 24-20 win over Palatka to move to 3-0.

Matt Goodale, Chiefland football

17-for-25 passing for 255 yards and three touchdowns in the Indians 41-14 win over Lafayette.

Sinei Wood, Columbia volleyball

125 kills and 23 serving aces for the Tigers in their 6-1 week to improve to 7-5.

Taylor Sembower, Buchholz volleyball

60 kills in the Bobcats six matches this week – compiling a 5-1 record with wins over Branford and Gainesville High.
