It has not been the start to the season Notre Dame fans had envisioned, but it is reality.
The Fighting Irish are 0-2 after season-opening close losses to Miami and Texas A&M, and the team will have a very difficult time getting back to the College Football Playoff. But one bright spot to this current gloomy season is the play of first-year starting quarterback CJ Carr, who looks the part of the high-star recruit he was coming into ND.
And star running back Jeremiyah Love has taken notice.
“I see the work that he puts in every single day,” Love said. “I see his leadership growing every single day. I’ve got a lot of respect for CJ. I just see a lot of greatness in him.”
Offense wasn’t the reason the Irish lost to the Aggies, as they scored 33 offensive points and averaged over six yards per play. Defense was an issue and remains a concern under coordinator Chris Ash.
The Irish, who fell 16 spots in the AP Top 25 poll to No. 24, return to action this week when they host Purdue.
