A Kansas man was sentenced Sept. 10 in U.S. District Court in White Plains to 25 years in prison after he was convicted of enticing a minor in Orange County to engage in sexual activity.
He also was sentenced for committing the offense while being required to register as a sex offender.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York said Curtis Ellington, 36, currently of Junction City, Kansas, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Philip M. Halpern.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s office, Ellington was first convicted in Orange County Court on or about Jan. 12, 2007, of first-degree rape, a felony, for allegedly having intercourse with a child under 11.
He was sentenced to seven years in prison, and as a result of that conviction was required to register as a sex offender.
On or about April 7, 2023, Ellington, who had traveled from Kansas to Orange County, slept at the home of a 15-year-old.
While there, Ellington allegedly engaged in sexual activity with the teen. Before doing that, Ellington had allegedly engaged in numerous communications with the victim on Instagram, where he discussed his desire to engage in sexual activity with the victim.
In addition to the 25-year prison sentence, Ellington was sentenced to 15 years of post-release supervision.
The name of Ellington’s attorney was not immediately available.
“Children deserve protection from those who would exploit them,” Jay Clayton, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, said in a statement released by his office. “There is zero tolerance for this heinous conduct. Our office will pursue every lead, use every tool and bring every resource to bear to ensure that predators like Curtis Ellington are removed from our communities.”
