From the sounds of it, we will see more of Travis Hunter on the defensive side of the ball in the Jacksonville Jaguars’ Week 2 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals.
When speaking with reporters on Wednesday, head coach Liam Coen said that there would be a “likely uptick” in snaps at cornerback for Hunter, according to ESPN.
In the Jaguars’ regular-season opener, Hunter spent most of his time at wide receiver, which, given how the offseason unfolded, didn’t come as a surprise.
Hunter would end up playing 42 offensive snaps and led the team in receptions with six, while totaling 33 receiving yards. All of his receptions came on shorter area throws, although he was targeted downfield on a play as well.
On defense, Hunter played six snaps against the Panthers and finished with one tackle.
As Coen described, it was known beforehand that Hunter’s defensive workload in Week 1 would be light, but the plan is to continue increasing his snap count as the season progresses.
For this week, Hunter still likely sees more snaps at wide receiver, but during those obvious passing situations defensively is when we will see him on the field at cornerback.
Awaiting the Jaguars’ defense in Week 2 is quarterback Joe Burrow and Bengals’ receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.
