A 23-year-old Milwaukee food delivery driver was charged with two felonies in relation to a fatal Aug. 30 collision where a driver collided into an ATV.
Jaden Brown-Smith faces two counts of driving without a driver’s license, one for causing death and another for causing great bodily harm, in the collision that killed 45-year-old Victor Ramos. The collision occurred on the 2800 block of West Concordia Avenue around midnight.
In an interview after the crash, Brown-Smith told an officer he had just completed Door Dash deliveries in his brother’s car when he saw a “red vehicle” moving quickly out of an alleyway, according to the criminal complaint.
Brown-Smith attempted to swerve, he said, but was unable to dodge it and hit the vehicle, which he later realized was an ATV, according to the criminal complaint. The man admitted to police he did not have a driver’s license.
The ATV passenger was in critical condition following the collision, according to the criminal complaint.
The criminal complaint cited Brown-Smith’s past driving record as well.
It showed he has never had a license and was cited for driving without a license on two other occasions that came in back-to-back days. One of the incidents was another car crash, according to the complaint.
Brown-Smith is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Sept. 9. He is being held on a $25,000 signature bond and is not allowed to drive during his court case, according to online court records.
The collision is one of at least two other fatal collisions or crashes in recent weeks in Milwaukee.
On Aug. 31, a 48-year-old Annette Pintor, a pedestrian, was killed in a hit-and-run, according to Milwaukee County Medical Examiner records.
Four days earlier, 34-year-old Stephen Lemay was killed while driving a motorcycle at a high rate of speed and losing control, according to police and medical examiner records.
Police data show 37 people have died in traffic crashes so far this year and there have been nearly 9,500 crashes.
