Around noon Aug. 29, Travelpiece was operating a four-axle dump truck westbound on U.S. Route 6 in Standing Stone Township, near the intersection of Rummerfield Road, with a large load of stone when the incident occurred, state police said.

The crash took place when the truck’s right front tire went off the right side of the roadway, causing Travelpiece to overcorrect, troopers said. As a result, the vehicle overturned onto the driver’s side in the middle of the road.

Travelpiece was entrapped in the truck and unresponsive. Responding emergency crews were able to extricate him from the truck, but he was declared dead at the scene. Travelpiece was wearing a seat belt at the time, troopers said.

State police were assisted at the scene by the Wysox, Wyalusing and Towanda fire departments, Guthrie EMS, and Fulmer Recovery and Transport Tow Service.
