A taste of historic Gothic Revival style-architecture can be found in one of Ohio’s lesser-known historic local hidden gems.
Looking for your next unforgettable destination? You don’t have to leave the state to see The Castle. Here’s what to know about the Mid-Ohio Valley attraction.
Ohio has a castle that you can visit and rent out
Located in Marietta, Ohio, The Castle Historic House Museum is a Victorian house attraction that offers tours of the 1855 Gothic Revival-style home, which formerly belonged to Ohio Senator Theodore Davis and many other prominent and influential residents. While the museum is open for educational tours, visitors can also rent out The Castle for special events, such as weddings. They can even embark on a ghost tour.
A massive home from the Victorian era, The Castle Museum is immersed in the history of Marietta.
The Gothic Revival house was built in 1855 for $10,000. Between 1808 and 1974, previous residents included lawyers, bankers, land and oil speculators, as well as a President Pro Tem of the Ohio Senate, Senator Theodore Davis. However, the site adds that only five families lived on the historical grounds during that time.
Following the death of its last resident in 1974, The Castle was renovated and opened as a historical house museum in 1994. Since then, it has provided tours, educational programs, and summer camps. The Historic House Museum is on the National Historic Register.
Visitors can even rent out The Castle for weddings and other events. You can also rent out the historical grounds for catered events, business parties, birthdays, bridal and baby showers, and rehearsal dinners, according to the site.
