A pair of forums in September will give Howell and Brighton voters a chance to learn more about council candidates.
The League of Women Voters of Livingston County is hosting a virtual forum for Howell City Council candidates at 7 p.m. Sept. 15, via Zoom. Members of the public can register by visiting tinyurl.com/3pcnw956. The Howell Carnegie District Library is facilitating technology for the online event.
The organization is also hosting an in-person forum for Brighton City Council candidates at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 16 at Brighton City Hall, 200 N. First St.
The public can submit questions for candidates in both forums by emailing lwvlivcoforums@gmail.com or by visiting tinyurl.com/mzmn8kxn. Questions must be submitted by Sept. 1 for consideration, according to a news release.
The forums will be recorded and available on the organization’s social media and YouTube channel.
Howell City Council
Five candidates are running for three seats with four-year terms on Howell City Council. The candidates include:
Stacy Rutledge dropped from the race in July.
Howell voters will also select a new mayor in November. Councilmember Nikola Hertrich is currently the only candidate. If elected, Howell City Council will need to make an appointment for his council seat, which has a term ending in 2027.
Brighton City Council
Six candidates are vying for four seats on Brighton City Council. The top three vote-getters will receive a four-year term, and the fourth top vote-getter will receive a two-year term. The candidates include:
