Rashee Rice, the Kansas City Chiefs No. 1 receiver, has been suspended for the first six games of the 2025 NFL season, which will affect the Chiefs game against the Detroit Lions.
Rice, according to reports from ESPN and NFL.com, has accepted a six-game suspension. Rice out for the early part of the Chiefs’ season, and will miss the Week 6 matchup against the Lions.
Rice’s legal issues followed a six-car crash in Dallas that hospitalized multiple people in March 2024. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail and five years of probation on July 17 and has been awaiting the NFL’s ruling on his eligibility since then.
Rice was drafted by the Chiefs in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft after the Chiefs traded up to the Lions’ pick — the Lions sent Nos. 55 and 194 to the Chiefs for Nos. 63, 122 and 249 — and played a key role on the Super Bowl champions in his rookie season, appearing in 16 regular-season games and racking up 938 yards on 79 receptions.
He played in four regular-season games in the 2024 season before the Chiefs placed him on injured reserve on Oct. 3 following a knee injury suffered while playing the Los Angeles Chargers on Sept. 29.
The Lions visit the Chiefs for a Week 6 matchup on Sunday, Oct. 12. The game will be broadcasted from Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City on NBC’s Sunday Night Football, with an 8:20 p.m. ET kickoff time.
The Lions won the 2023 season opener in Arrowhead, 21-20, though the Chiefs were without All-Pros Chris Jones and Travis Kelce.
