The Miami Dolphins claimed former Indianapolis Colts cornerback JuJu Brents off waivers Wednesday.
Brents, 25, was the Colts’ second-round pick in the 2023 NFL draft, taken seven selections before the Dolphins picked fellow Cam Smith. But after making eight starts as a rookie, Brents missed almost all of his second NFL season due to a knee injury.

With his job on the line this August, injuries continued to slow Brents and he missed a significant chunk of training camp with a hamstring injury. While he returned to play in the Colts’ preseason finale, the team’s addition of Xavien Howard spelled the end of Brents’ tenure in Indianapolis.
In Miami, Brents will join an unheralded, inexperienced secondary that added Rasul Douglas to the mix Wednesday. According to Dolphins general manager Chris Grier, Cam Smith is set to begin the season on the non-football injury list which should make room on the roster for Brents.
