The preseason has been wrapped up, and while records matter as much in the preseason as points did in Who’s Line is it Anyway?, there is some substance to be had from the games.
We get first looks at new players on every team, you see free agents and rookies fighting for their spot on a 53-man roster, which is highly competitive. However, for first-round picks, they are always guaranteed to make the team as a rookie, barring something extraordinary happening.
CBS Sports’ Chris Trapasso wrote about those first-round picks and what teams saw from them in the preseason recently, going as far as to give them a grade. For the Bucs’ first-round pick, Emeka Egbuka, he made an impact right away for the offense, and that earned him an A-.
Trapasso writes, “Two catches for 26 yards and a touchdown in the preseason for Egbuka; it was enough to ignite some excitement for the first-round rookie in an offense with Mike Evans and Chris Godwin.”
Egbuka is going to be filling in for either Jalen McMillan or Chris Godwin Jr. when the season starts as they heal up. Once Godwin returns, then coordinator Josh Grizzard will have to decide who moves outside, but either wa,y the team is set up to utilize Egbuka right away as a rookie.
