Michigan State football will be riding the hot hand when it comes to running backs this season.
As of right now, don’t expect the Spartans to have a stereotypical bell cow running back this season. That’s at least the plan as we enter the season-opener on Friday against Western Michigan.
Michigan State offensive coordinator Brian Lindgren provided an update on the running backs position battle on Tuesday, with Lindgren reportedly saying the Spartans will handle the position room by committee. He also said the Spartans will ride the hot hand in a particular game to determine the bulk of carries.
There have been a handful of Spartans in the mix for carries at running back during the fall preseason camp. Recent reports have indicated that sophomores Makhi Frazier and Brandon Tullis are set to be the top running backs for the opener against Western Michigan, with Sacramento State transfer Elijah Tau-Tolliver and true freshman Jace Clarizio expected to be in the mix as reserves.
Michigan State will kick off the 2025 season on Friday in a home game against Western Michigan. Kickoff from Spartan Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET, with the game set to be televised on FS1.
