UMC Health System held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday, August 25, to celebrate the official dedication of the UMC Children’s Hospital and the grand opening of Panda Playground — a vibrant new outdoor space at UMC designed to bring joy, comfort, and a sense of normalcy to young patients and their families.
The event brought together hospital leadership, local officials, community partners, and families to recognize a major milestone in pediatric care for the region, according to a news release from UMC.
The newly dedicated UMC Children’s Hospital underscores the health system’s deep commitment to delivering advanced medical care in an environment built for healing, according to the news release. With a focus on both clinical excellence and compassionate care, the hospital plays a vital role in serving children and families across West Texas and Eastern New Mexico.
UMC Children’s Hospital: A Regional Leader in Pediatric Care
As part of the celebration, UMC also unveiled the new Panda Playground, a joyful, therapeutic outdoor space designed to support the emotional well-being of pediatric patients and their families during treatment. The playground was made possible through the generous support of the Panda Cares Center of Hope, powered by Panda Express associates and guests.
“It’s more than just a place to play. It’s a space where children can take a break from the challenges of treatment, experience moments of joy, and simply feel like kids again,” said Misti Welch, UMC Foundation Director. “We are so grateful to the Panda Cares Center of Hope team for making this possible.”
