For the second week in a row, Matthew Stafford is participating in practice for the Los Angeles Rams. The 37-year-old quarterback had missed nearly four weeks with a back injury but he returned to the field last Monday and has been a full participant in every practice since.
He’s once again taking part in team drills, too, which is an even more encouraging sign than if he were only doing individual work. It seems he’s suffered no setbacks or further issues since getting in a full practice last week, which is great news for the Rams with the start of the regular season just over a week away.
It sems likely that he’ll be able to suit up against the Houston Texans in Week 1 on Sept. 7.
Stafford’s injury was diagnosed as an aggravated disc. It’s unrelated to any other back injuries he’s dealt with during his career, as this is something that popped up while working out before training camp.
Stafford said he’s done “everything under the sun” to be ready for the start of the season, as has the Rams’ coaching and training staffs. Progress has certainly been made and all eyes will now turn to Week 1 against the Texans.
Update (1:49 p.m. ET): Sean McVay said after practice that Stafford was a full participant on Monday.
