A longtime leader in Dan Gilbert’s mortgage lending and finance empire will retire from his executive role at year’s end.
Bill Emerson will retire as president of the Detroit-based Rocket Companies come Dec. 31 but stay on the board of directors thereafter, according to a Wednesday, Aug. 20, securities filing.
Rocket Companies is the parent of numerous Gilbert companies, notably including Rocket Mortgage. The news was first reported locally by Crain’s Detroit Business.
Emerson joined Gilbert’s team in 1993 as a mortgage banking loan officer and served as CEO for Quicken Loans for 15 years. He led the Bedrock real estate arm, was vice chairman of Rock Holdings and served as interim CEO at Rocket Companies in 2023.
He also sits on multiple philanthropic foundation boards in the Detroit area and was on Penn State’s 1982 National Championship football team.
The Free Press has reached out to Rocket Companies for comment.
