Southwest Airlines is continuing its Milwaukee expansion.
Only a week after announcing two new daily flights between Milwaukee and Chicago-Midway, Southwest said it’s adding nonstop flights at Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport to three U.S. cities: San Diego, Austin and Miami.
“By using these new flights, we can show our largest carrier that we support flight additions from MKE, which can make it easier for airlines to add more flights in the future,” Airport Director Brian Dranzik said in an Aug. 21 news release.
The service expansion comes as Mitchell has seen a dip in passengers in 2025 and as Southwest is changing some of its most popular, budget-friendly policies.
Here’s what to know about the announcement:
When do Southwest’s new trips from Milwaukee to each city start?
The first expansion flights are to San Diego. They begin Oct. 2, and operate five days a week, from Thursdays through Mondays.
Southwest’s additional flights to Austin, an increase in the nonstop service it began earlier this year, now includes additional flights every Sunday, starting March 8.
The nonstop flights between Milwaukee and Miami coincide with cruises, Dranzik said. Southwest will offer the flights on Saturdays during peak spring break season, starting March 7. Flights between Milwaukee and Cancun, Mexico, will also be offered on Saturdays and Sundays during the spring break period.
Southwest nonstop flight destinations from Milwaukee
Southwest said in the release it now offers flights to 19 destinations from Milwaukee.
