CROSS COUNTRY
Lancaster places second: The Lady Gales opened their season at the OHSAA Preseason Meet. The Gales ran extremely well, despite the heat. In the varsity race, the Gales placed second out of 15 teams. Harper Allen led the Gales with a third-place finish. Sophomore Brooke Derringer followed in 12th. Amelia Fries and Hadley Allen finished close behind in 22nd and 23rd, respectively. Lindy Neeley placed 59th in her debut varsity race. Lily Carpico (68), Alia Hopple (100), Makenzie Rudduck (104), Annabelle Walter (116) and Callie Kretzmann (138) ran great races to round out the varsity squad.
In the Open race, the Lady Gales placed 5th out of 13 teams. Leading the Gales was Junior Katie Coy in 9th place. Junior Ava Zeiders followed close behind in 16th. JaciLynn Sark and Alyssa Johnson finished 22nd and 23rd, respectively, in their first cross-country race. Morgan Johnson rounded out the scoring in 45th place. Paige Archer (54), Brenna Jarrett (91), Chelsea Petersen (138), Taylor Mathias (147), Leigh-Ellen Fullen (209), Zoe Fullen (214), Julie Rudduck (228) and Addy Stratton (229) toughed out the heat to finish fantastic races.
The Gales head to Centerville for the Saturday Night Lights race Aug. 23 to compete in an exciting night race.
SOCCER
Bloom-Carroll 3, Worthington Kilbourne 0: The Bulldogs cruised in their nonconference win over the Wolves. Mackenzie Haslett, Kaylee Morris and Lydia Hertlein scored one goal each, while Lauryn Pinkerton finished with eight saves.
Fairfield Union 3, Unioto 0: The Falcons picked up their first win of the season against the Tanks. Kyla Gasser, Peyton Hughes and Maddi Mitchell scored one goal each, with Mitchell and Gasser adding an assist. Sadie Schultz finished with three saves.
TENNIS
Mount Vernon 3, Lancaster 2: The Lady Gales fell short in the nonconference loss to the Yellow Jackets.
At No. 1 singles, Kenzie White won 6-0, 6-1; at No. 2 singles, Brinkley Conklin won 7-6, 7-6 and at No. 3 singles, Vivian Worthington lost 7-6, 6-1. At No. 1 doubles, Eliza Hill and Jessie Dozier lost 6-1, 6-1, and at No. 2 doubles, Morgan Brand and Hannah Stone lost 4-6, 6-1, 7-6.
Thomas Worthington 4, Lancaster 1: At No. 1 singles, Kenzie White won 3-6, 6-4, 11-9; at No. singles, Brinkley Conklin lost 2-6, 7-6, 7-6, and at No. 3 singles, Vivian Worthington lost 6-1, 7-6. At No. 1 doubles, Sydney McClellan and Jessie Dozier lost 6-0, 6-1, and at No. 2 doubles, Morgan Brand and Eliza Hill lost 6-0, 6-3.
GOLF
Lancaster girls: The Lady Gales competed at Worthington Hills against Thomas Worthington, Westerville North and Worthington Kilbourne. The Gales placed fourth with a 225-team total. Brennan Salapek led the way with a 52, followed by Annebelle Walter (55), Mya Gustafson (57), Bella Specht (61), Maddie Barnes (62) and Skylar Smith (64)
Lancaster boys: The Gales traveled to Darby Creek Golf Course for an Ohio Capital Conference-Buckeye Division match. The Gales shot a 336, which was good for third out of eight teams behind Teays Valley and Newark. Gabe Betts holed out from 170 yards on the last hole for an eagle and finished with a 76. Jacob Miller and Bryson Branham shot 85s, Ben Richardson 90, and Jackson Cluse 91.
Lancaster competed against 17 other teams at the Hocking Hills GC for the Logan Invitational. The Gales shot a season-low 322, which won the tournament, beating out Williamstown (WV) (328) and Jackson (329). Leading the way for the Gales and coming up as the runner-up medalist was senior Bryson Branham, who shot a 74. Senior Gabe Betts was in the Top 5, earning recognition by shooting a 78. Junior Jackson Cluse shot 84, Senior Jacob Miller 86 and Junior Ben Richardson 91.
Fairfield Union: The Falcons traveled to Denison Golf Course to compete in the Rodney Butt Invitational, hosted by Granville. The team finished 14th out of 20 teams. Low Falcon was Bryce Lepi with 78, Caden Featheroff 82, Ian McDaniels and Eli Wolfe 89, and Will Wolfe 91
Amanda-Clearcreek: The Aces finished third in the Blom-Carroll Invitational. Caiden Riddle fired a 77 and was the medalist. Other A-C scores were Ashden Vanscoy, 85; AJ Moyer, 88; Breece Stone, 101; and Cole West, 122. The Bulldogs placed first with a 326 and were followed by Fairfield Union (329), Circleville (330), A-C (359), Logan Elm (407), and Liberty Union (440).
