SANDY TOWNSHIP − Tusky Valley Road, about a third of a mile east of state Route 212, will be closed to all traffic Aug. 11-14 for railroad crossing reconstruction.

Donate school supplies, buy dinner

DENNISON − A Fill the Truck school supply drive will be from noon to 4 p.m. Aug. 17, at the Denison Fire Department, along with a spaghetti dinner from 1 to 4 p.m. Dinner is $6, and includes spaghetti, Italian bread, salad and water. For more information, call the fire department at 740-922-2067.

Free movies at Dennison Depot

DENNISON − To offer more perspectives of what life was like on the American home front, Aug. 14. “Molly: An American Girl on the Home Front” will be shown from 4 to 5:30 p.m. and “A League of Their Own” will be shown from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 14, at the Dennison Depot, 400 Center St..

Admission is free. Concessions will be available for purchase. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 740-922-6776.

See steam engines and antique farm equipment

DOVER − The Tuscarawas Valley Pioneer Power 61st annual Show featuring steam engines and antique farm equipment will be Aug. 15-17 at the Tuscarawas County Fairgrounds, 259 S. Tuscarawas Ave. Admission is $7. Children 12 and younger will be admitted free with an adult.

Movie musical is Aug. 12

NEW PHILADELPHIA − “The Greatest Showman” will be shown at 7 p.m. Aug. 12, at Kent State Tuscarawas Performing Arts Center, as part of its summer series. Tickets are $10 and include popcorn. For tickets or more information, visit https://kentstate.evenue.net/events/performing-arts-center-season.

Country music at Atwood Lake Park

NEW PHILADELPHIA − Country Waves 2025 will be at Atwood Lake Park on Aug. 16, featuring Jackson Dean, Matt Stell and Cody Clayton Eagle. General admission tickets are $35. VIP tickets are $75 and include premier stage-side viewing and the closest parking to the amphitheater. Junior tickets (ages 5-10) are $25, and 4 and under are free.

All tickets include parking and access to Atwood Lake Park. Guests can come early and swim at the beach or hike on the trails. All tickets are lawn seating and guests should bring their own seating, chairs or blankets . No outside alcohol, canopies, or coolers permitted. Ticket prices will increase on the day of the concert.

The amphitheater will open at 4:30 p.m. with food trucks and a beer garden. All proceeds from the beer garden will benefit local nonprofit group SAVE22. For more information and tickets, visit www.mwcd.org/concert.

The Dolly Doc at the Drive-In event will feature a free screening of the documentary “The Library That Dolly Built” at the Lynn Drive-In Theatre Aug. 14. The film takes viewers behind the scenes of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to show how she has developed a program for spreading the love of reading. The gates will open at 7 p.m., and the movie will begin around 8:30 p.m.

Prior to the show, children can participate in yard games with the Tuscarawas County YMCA and Story Time with the Tuscarawas County Public Library. Adults can snap selfies with a life-size cutout of Dolly and purchase tickets for raffle baskets. The concession stand will offer a Dolly Dog, a chili dog topped with coleslaw.

All funds raised will benefit Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in Tuscarawas County to help offset the cost of the books mailed to participating families. For more information about the event, visit www.tuscunitedway.org.

Scott named Ohio Farm Bureau organization director

MINERAL CITY − Kayla Scott of Mineral City has been named organization director for Ohio Farm Bureau and will serve members in Carroll, Harrison, Jefferson and Tuscarawas counties. In this role, she will work with the county Farm Bureaus to address issues important to members and their communities.

Scott grew up raising and showing pigs, dairy cattle, and sheep with her family. She traveled across the country to show livestock as well as participating in Tuscarawas County 4-H, where she was a member for 10 years. She has worked at a commercial swine barn, local feed store in eastern Ohio, and two College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences research labs at The Ohio State University.

Scott holds associate’s and bachelor’s degrees in agriculture from The Ohio State University, and she will earn her master of science degree this summer. During her tenure with the university, Scott completed a study abroad in the United Kingdom, competed on the meat evaluation team, and conducted a variety of statewide research and Extension projects.
